Here you can find a list of the ninja ranks featured on Naruto and some of the organisations shown along with short definitions.
Academy Student
Academy students are young children who focus studying on basic techniques. Usually they are too weak and not experienced enough to go on ninja missions when the village requires for them. Requirements for graduation differ in various villages.
Genin
A genin is the first real ninja rank. By being a genin, it shows that you have done enough to pass the ninja academy. After becoming a genin, you get given a metal forhead protector which you can wear for your pride. Most of the missions genin’s recieve are d-ranked which is mostly labour work e.g. getting a cat out of a tree, finding a missing animal etc.
Chuunin
Only ninja’s that have shown enough skill throughout the genin exam can become Chuunin’s. You have to be an all round balanced ninja or excel in your talents. Chuunin’s are given higher ranked missions than that of Genin’s.
Jounin
Jounin’s are elite ninjas which show a huge amount of skill and talent. They get the higher ranked missions, some of which involve assassination. Many of the Jounin’s in the villages lead a group of 3 genin’s and help them along their mission to success.
Sannin
Sannin are ninja that have a huge amount strength and talent, above those of Jounin and just below the level of Kage. Konoha’s Sannin were Orochimaru, Jiraiya and Tsunade.
Kage
The strongest ninja in their village. They make the important decisions in the village and act as a role model to look up to. Their job is to protect their village from any dangerous threats.
Medical-Nin
Ninja who have focused their training on studying the arts of medicine. They are highly skilled at performing medical related ninjutsu, they usually tag along with others to provide assistance for them during their mission.
ANBU
ANBU are quite secretive. They specialize in killing, assassination, long pursuits and investigation. They are incredibly talented and wear a mask as a symbol of them belonging to ANBU.
Hunter-Nin
Ninja that hunt down missing-nin. Specializes in tracking, assassination and hunting down prey.
Missing-Nin
Ninja’s that have betrayed their village and left to become a rogue ninja. They are hunted by Hunter-Nin to keep their villages secrets safe.
Akatsuki
The akatsuki are the main villians in Naruto Shippuuden. They consist of the following members; Pein, Tobi, Uchiha Itachi, Deidara, Hidan, Kukuzu, Kisame, Sasori and Konan.
